Following a Community Initiative, an Omniva Community Parcel Locker Opens in Ance

International technology and logistics company Omniva has opened a Community Parcel Locker in Ance – a new type of solution that enables convenient parcel sending and collection even in less densely populated areas.

Over the past few months, Ance has become a symbol of a broader discussion about access to essential services in Latvia’s regions. The active involvement of local residents and their clearly expressed need for a parcel locker demonstrated how important such a service is in everyday life. Omniva has now taken the next step by delivering a solution – installing a Community Parcel Locker in Ance, specifically designed for smaller communities.

Community Parcel Lockers are smaller, energy-efficient, and operate without a permanent electricity or internet connection. This makes it possible to install them in locations where maintaining a traditional parcel locker has previously been more challenging, while still providing residents with convenient access to parcel services. Omniva’s goal is to make parcel lockers available as close to people’s homes as possible, and Community Parcel Lockers are an important step towards achieving that ambition.

“The story of Ance showed us just how important this service is to local people. We listened to the community and are pleased that Ance is among the first locations in Latvia where we can introduce the new Community Parcel Locker concept. It is a solution that allows us to ensure access to parcel services even in less densely populated areas,” said Jānis Andžāns, Omniva’s representative in Latvia.

Community Parcel Lockers are part of Omniva’s long-term development strategy. Over the coming years, the company plans to install hundreds of these parcel lockers across the Baltics, enabling more people to send and receive parcels as close to their homes as possible.

Residents of Ance will be able to use the parcel locker for both collecting online shopping orders and sending parcels, including deliveries of products from local businesses and home producers. The opening of the Community Parcel Locker in Ance demonstrates that modern logistics services can also be provided in smaller communities by implementing sustainable solutions that meet local needs.

Convenient and Accessible to Use

Customers can collect parcels from the new lockers in the usual way by receiving a collection code via SMS, email, or the Omniva mobile app, depending on their chosen notification preferences. To open a compartment, the code must be entered using the locker keypad.

Parcels can be sent by registering the shipment in advance through the Omniva mobile app or the e-service portal and then dropping it off at the selected parcel locker.

The locker keypad and compartments are accessible for wheelchair users, while the keypad is equipped with Braille markings to ensure accessibility for people with visual impairments.

The new Community Parcel Locker network is part of Omniva’s strategy to develop a dense, close-to-home delivery infrastructure across the Baltics.
