Omniva expands its parcel locker network in neighbourhoods and regions across Latvia
International technology and logistics group Omniva will begin expanding its parcel locker network in March, with a particular focus on neighbourhoods and regions across Latvia. In the coming months, the installation of community parcel lockers will begin to ensure convenient sending and receiving of parcels also in less populated areas outside the largest centres. This spring, the first 20 community parcel lockers are planned to be installed in Latvia.
“New, compact parcel lockers are intended for less populated areas and neighbourhoods where the installation of traditional parcel lockers is not economically or technically justified. In Latvia, the new parcel lockers will be installed both in Riga and regional centres, as well as in smaller populated areas across the country, expanding service availability beyond the largest cities,” says Agnese Grīnberga, Omniva’s Country Manager in Latvia.
The locations of the new parcel lockers are determined in cooperation with local municipalities and communities, who best understand residents’ mobility patterns and daily service needs in their areas. Based on their proposals, the first approved locations have been selected.
Currently approved locations for the new community parcel lockers are: Augstkalne (Dobele municipality), Baltinava (Balvi municipality), Indra (Krāslava municipality), Palsmane (Smiltene municipality), Tilža (Balvi municipality), Variņi (Smiltene municipality), Jaunbērze (Dobele municipality), Ļaudona (Madona municipality), Durbe (South Kurzeme municipality), Rencēni (Valmiera municipality), Pope (Ventspils municipality), Gaujiena (Smiltene municipality), Jaungulbene (Gulbene municipality), Daudzeva (Aizkraukle municipality), Sece (Aizkraukle municipality), Inciems (Sigulda municipality), Auciems (Cēsis municipality), as well as Riga, Tukums and Jelgava.
The analysis of the most suitable locations for the remaining first-phase parcel lockers is still ongoing. In the near future, Omniva will also announce a public call for residents and municipalities to submit proposals for new parcel locker locations.
The new parcel lockers are specially designed for areas outside cities – they operate on batteries, are quick to install and can be relocated if necessary, and are modularly expandable from 7 to 21 compartments.
“Omniva’s goal is to develop a dense, home-close parcel locker infrastructure across the Baltics, making e-commerce – which residents increasingly prefer – conveniently accessible also in smaller communities. We are moving towards a future where every populated area has its own parcel locker,” says Martti Kuldma, Chairman of the Management Board of Omniva Group.
Convenient and accessible use
Parcels can be collected from the new lockers in the usual way – customers will receive a notification with a pickup code via SMS, email or the Omniva mobile app according to their preferences. To open the compartment, the code must be entered on the locker’s keypad.
To send a parcel, it must first be registered in the Omniva mobile app or e-self-service environment and then delivered to the selected parcel locker.
The locker keypad and compartments are accessible for wheelchair users, and the keypad is equipped with Braille markings to ensure accessibility for people with visual impairments.
Once the installation date of a specific parcel locker is confirmed, Omniva will inform local residents about the installation and usage procedure in cooperation with the respective municipality, as well as – where possible – through local media and social media channels.
The new type of parcel locker network is part of Omniva’s strategy to develop a dense, home-close delivery infrastructure across the Baltics.
