Omniva Opens Latvia’s First Community Parcel Locker in Inciems

Today, May 19, Omniva opened Latvia’s first community parcel locker in Inciems, Sigulda Municipality, marking a new stage in the development of the parcel locker network. The aim of the new solution is to provide modern parcel sending and receiving services also in smaller populated areas.

“People’s habits have changed, and postal services must evolve along with them. Today, e-commerce and parcel deliveries are an essential part of everyday life. By expanding the parcel locker network into smaller communities, we ensure that modern services are accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live,” says Jānis Andžāns, Head of Communications at Omniva.

The parcel locker in Inciems is already available for use, and the first deliveries to it will be made in the coming days.

“Accessibility of services close to residents’ homes is important for the municipality’s inhabitants. We are pleased that Inciems is the first place in Latvia where this type of community parcel locker has been opened,” says Linards Kumskis, Chairman of the Sigulda Municipality Council.

Over the next few years, Omniva plans to expand the community parcel locker network to other locations across Latvia and the Baltics, making the sending and receiving of e-commerce parcels fast and convenient regardless of place of residence.

“Parcel lockers have become the most popular way for residents to send and receive shipments. The new parcel lockers are compact, energy-efficient, and can be installed in locations where such services were previously unavailable,” emphasizes J. Andžāns.

Using the new model parcel locker is similar to using other Omniva parcel lockers. The main difference is that the new community parcel lockers use a button keypad instead of a touchscreen. When receiving a parcel, the customer receives an SMS or a notification in the Omniva mobile app with a pickup code. To open the compartment, the customer must press the START button, enter the code, and press OK.

To send a parcel, it must first be registered and paid for in the Omniva mobile app or on the website mana.omniva.lv. There is no need to print an address label — this is provided by the Omniva courier. The parcel locker compartment can be opened using a smartphone. In the future, the company plans to introduce a parcel drop-off function without the use of a smartphone. Instructions for use are also available on the parcel locker itself.
